Make Up Look: Blue Smokey

Recently I’ve been trying out more dramatic looks because I want to try easing out of my comfort zone when it comes to makeup, albeit slowly. When doing my makeup, I usually use the same range of colours, but today I wanted to try some of the colours that I don’t really reach for that often. So I created this look using the blue and taupe-mauve shades in my collection.

I had a lot of fun experimenting with colours, and the result was better than I expected, so I’m really excited to share this with you!

The first step, as usual, was to prime my face using my lovely Innisfree Blur Face Primer. I tried switching my sun cream in a previous post, but it was a lot more greasy than I wanted it to be, so I returned to my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sun Screen SPF 30.

You might have noticed this already, but since I was trying to travel as light as possible, I only brought a limited number of makeup items to Guatemala with me, so most of the makeup process is going to be mostly the same.

I prepped my lips with Smith’s Minted Rose Balm for later, and applied a thin layer of It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream.
Then I used my Revlon Photoready Concealer in #003 Light Medium cover up my under eye circles, the redness on and around my nose, imperfections on my cheeks, and forehead.
Then I used my Tony Moly Aqua Aura Moist Finish Pact in #2 Skin Beige. Then I used the Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo in Aruba to build up a subtle shadow on the hollows of my cheeks.
Then I used the A’Pieu Pastel Blusher in CR03 on the apples of my cheeks, dragging the colour up towards my temples.

For my brows, I used my Inglot shadows and an eyebrow brush to fill in my brows and really define them with a nice brown colour, building the colour up. Then I took a blue shadow and patted a bit onto the front of the eyebrows and blended it in because to add a little more blue to the look.

For my eyes, I used both my Inglot shadows and my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette Then I covered my entire lid with the shade Strange from the Naked palette (a near white matte), and then blended in a light blue shadow on top of that. Then I brushed on a slightly darker shade of blue on 1/3 of my inner lid. Then I patted on the shade Dust from the Naked 3 palette for a more shimmery centre of the lid, to add definition to my eye.

Then I picked up some of the colour Darkside from the Naked 3 palette and concentrated it onto the outer corners of my eyes and blended it in a little into the outer hollows of my eyes. I usually use a bright, shimmery shadow to line 1/3 of the inner corner of my lower lash line, but today I used the NYX Wonder Pencil in Light to line the inner corner of my lower lashline. Then I lined my eyes and made a prominent wing with my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Jet Black.

I curled my lashes and for mascara, I used this one mascara that I found in my room. It’s from The FaceShop, and it’s the Face It Lesson Smoky Volume Mascara Holiday Love Edition mascara. I don’t like the formula too much because I don’t feel like it makes a difference on my lashes, lengthwise or thickness-wise. But I like the wand, because it’s nice and thin, so it makes it easy to apply on my short and sparce eyelashes so I am considering buying a mascara with a better formula and using this wand.

For my lips, I used the Rouge Volupte Shine in 08 Pink in Confidence. I finished the look by spraying my face with Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray.

And voilà! You’re done!

I really like this look because it’s something that I don’t wear often, because I tend to go for more natural looks. But recently I have been gaining more and more interest in bolder, more prominent eye looks and this is me slowly inching my way out of my safe zone.

Hurray for colours!

Yours Truly,
