Mini Haul: Sephora and Lush

Wednesday

Hello friends! A while ago I ran out of my Stila Stay All Day eyeliner, and I also noticed that my Revlon Photoready concealer was starting to run out, so when we went to the mall a couple days ago with Wonderfru Boifriend, we stopped by Sephora and Ulta to pick up some replacements.

A couple days later, I went shopping with my friend and we went to Sephora and Lush, and I ended up picking up a couple of new products, so I figured I’d write a post about it. I haven’t been posting a lot lately, and some of you will know that it’s because I recently started school again and things have been a bit busy. But earlier this week Wonderfru Boifriend and I took the pictures for my very first look book, and it will go up once I put it together in a post.

On a side note, I got my Colour IQ scanned at Sephora, and it was really interesting. My skin tone is a 5Y07 according to the machine, but the software for the Colour IQ did not suggest the right shade for the products I wanted, so I just took note of the IQ number and moved on. I might do more research on it through Sephora.

I’ll start out with the things I got at Sephora.

Liners and Concealer b (5)

As I said, I ran out of eyeliner, so the first product I picked out was the Sephora Colorful Wink-It Felt Liner Waterproof in 01 Little Black Dress. I actually wasn’t planning on getting the Sephora Wink-it Liner, but I did so as a result of recently watching a YouTube video by Tessa Violet titled “How Cruel is My Makeup Bag?” (which you can check out here). A comment that she made that really resonated with me was how even though I do not have an obligation to, as a person that can afford (both financially and availability-wise) to go cruelty free, it wouldn’t hurt to go the extra mile to go cruelty free. After all, it’s consumers that drive the market and as consumers, if we stop buying products that test on animals, bigger companies might start getting the hint.

So long story short, Stila is not a cruelty free company, and so I chose to look for an alternative for the Stay All Day eyeliner. If I am right, the Sephora cosmetics brand is cruelty free, and of the liquid eyeliners that I tested, the Wink-It eyeliner was the best. It made a clear, black line, it dries relatively quickly, it did not flake off after drying, and it did not budge even after I rubbed my fingers all over it.

As a sample, I got a small Kat Von D Ink Liner in Trooper. I tried both the liners on my hand so you could see them. I really loved how clear the lines were, cos one of the biggest concerns I had with the Stila eyeliner is that after a while, the lines would not be as clear as they were at the beginning, and there always would be a pesky little thread at the end of the felt tip.

Both eyeliners make really defined, rich black lines, which I am impressed with. I’ve been wearing the Wink-It liner for a couple days now, and it does last a while, but on a particularly warm day I did notice that a bit of the inner corner of my wing had faded. So far, not the best, but I do like it better than the Stila liner..

I haven’t tried the Kat Von D eyeliner yet, but I’ll have to try it out soon.

I also purchased the Sephora Beauty Amplifier Universal Lip Liner. This lip liner is clear, and it prevents feathering for any shade of lipstick. I bought this because once I started wearing my ColourPop liquid matte lipsticks, I couldn’t help but notice how hard it was to “paint inside the lines.” I had my eyes on this liner for a while, since I didn’t really feel like buying ten thousand different shades of lip liner, and when we went to Sephora, I thought, why not get it?

I must say, I kind of expected this lip liner to make a faint white line, kind of like white wax crayons, but this liner is really transparent. So far I am satisfied with the product. It’s not a magical product that makes my lip-applying-technique perfect, but it does help a lot, especially with the corners of the mouth, which tend to be the trickiest for me when applying liquid lipstick.

I got a couple samples from purchasing these things, including the Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover and the Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder . I was excited for these products, because they’re on the bigger side considering they’re samples, and they’re perfect for travel. The eye makeup remover is currently resting on top of my dresser, but the Makeup Forever Powder is in my gym bag, ready for deploy.

The one product I got from Ulta was the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer in 150 Neutralizer.

I had been thinking of getting a good liquid concealer, but I first wanted to try the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer cos a couple Beauty YouTubers that I have been following mentioned it, some even calling this concealer their holy grail product. I bought mine in the shade 150 Neutralizer. I’ve been using this product since I got it, and I must say, I like it! It’s really lightweight, which I love, while offering natural coverage. It’s best for the under eye area, but I also used it on other spots, like around my nose or my chin, and it still works fine. The sponge applicator was a bit more floppy than I expected it to be, but it isn’t that big of a deal.

From Lush, I got three things:

Sorry about the blurry picture, I must have not been paying enough attention.

First I got the Bubblegum Lip Scrub, which I have been considering getting cos I remember reading a review on it that said it was one of the best lip scrubs they had tried. As it is with any other Lush product, the scent is amazing. It really smells like pink bubblegum, and the fact that you can eat it makes it even more fun. The actual scrub has small grains that are not too rough on the lips and it does a great job as a lip scrub in general.

I also repurchased my favourite Lush bath bomb, Sakura. I love the floral scent that emanates from Sakura, and it looks absolutely stunning when tossed into a bath.

Then I got an Avobath, a bath bomb that I had not tried before. This bath bomb is green and it smells like “freshness.” I can’t find a better word to describe it. It smells strongly of lemongrass and I think it will be the perfect bath bomb for the warm summer days we have been having here.

So those are all the things that I got in the past few days. But I have another product coming! My friend bought me the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette and it’s being delivered in a couple days, so I am super excited. We swatched the shadows when we were at Sephora, and the colours by themselves are to die for, but the texture of the shadows is even more impressive. I really love the buttery texture of my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette shadows, but even those pale in comparison to how smooth and silky the Modern Renaissance Palette was. And it has brown and red tones, which will be more than perfect for fall, so you can guess how incredibly excited I am.

It really feels great to be writing again. I’m going to try to update every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, like I did over the summer. I hope you guys enjoyed this ridiculously long post, and I’ll see you on my next post!
